Union commander, Major General Ambrose Burnside, launches fruitless attacks against Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The tour will start in downtown Fredericksburg, observing the sites of the first river assault landing in U.S. history as well as the first urban street combat in U.S. history. From Hanover Street, the tour will follow the major line of attack by the federal army , to the bottom of Mayre’s Heights. Along the way, you will be walking where the brave had fallen and you will hear their descriptions of these bloody attacks.
